Occasionally, revenue or payment entries in your source system are not correctly configured or fully mapped. When this occurs, these entries cannot be matched to the appropriate ledger account in your accounting system and therefore cannot be synchronised.
To ensure that a valid journal entry can still be generated in these situations, we use what are known as fallback ledger accounts. These accounts act as a catch-all for any revenue or payment entries that cannot be matched to a specific ledger account during synchronisation. We strongly recommend creating at least two separate fallback ledger accounts within your accounting system: one designated for revenue and one designated for payments. This ensures that even when entries are unmapped, they are still posted within the correct category in your accounting platform.
If you notice amounts appearing on your fallback ledger accounts, this is an indication that one or more entries in your POS or PMS system are not mapped correctly within the integration. In this case, please review the ledger accounts you have assigned within your integration mapping. Depending on your integration, the mapping is managed either within your source system itself (for example, directly within Mews) or through our onboarding and configuration platform, Base. Once the unmapped entries have been identified, please update the mapping accordingly to resolve the issue.
